Optimal Loading Strategy
For mixed cargo, always place heavier items at the bottom and lighter/fragile items on top. Ensure the center of gravity is as close to the center of the container as possible to maintain vessel stability.
Broken Stowage
This calculator uses 100% geometric volume. In practice, allow for 5-15% "broken stowage" depending on item uniformity.
Payload vs Gross
The "Max Weight" refers to the cargo payload capacity, which already excludes the container's tare weight.
How to use this tool
Add your cargo items one by one. Specify their external dimensions (L, W, H) and individual gross weight.
Update the quantity for each item to see how the total volume and weight accumulate.
Select different container types (20GP, 40GP, 40HQ) to compare utilization levels.
Monitor the Volume and Weight Utilization bars to ensure your load is safe and efficient.
Review the remaining space to see if you can add more cargo or need a larger container.
